The Saint on TV
Episode 8: The Arrow of God
"THE ARROW OF GOD"
The Saint goes to Nassau, meets a very mixed assortment of party guests, and
helps solves the mystery of a newspaper columnist's death.
Three times weekly, the syndicatd column written by Floyd Vosper (ANTHONY
DAWSON) dishes out dirt about the social whirl. By sprinkling a few grains
of truth into a mess on innuendo and smut, he pretends to report the lowdown
on celebrities. The Saint, Simon Templar (ROGER MOORE), is not at all
pleased to find Vosper among the guests at a house party given by the
wealthy Lucy Wexall (ELSPETH MARCH) and her husband, Herbert (RONALD LEIGH
HUNT).
Vosper has some varied subject matter at his disposal. Among those present
are Lucy Wexell's sister, Janet Blaise (ANNE SHARP), a pretty girl whose
fiance is the tennis-playing star John Herrick (TONY WRIGHT).
There is an Indian mystic named Astron (JOHN CARSON), invited by Lucy to
Nassau after she has met him in New York. Present, too, is Arthur Gresson
(GORDON TANNER), who is trying to put over a business deal with Herbert
Wexall. There is also the attractive Pauline Stone (HONOR BLACKMAN),
Wexall's secretary, who is in love with her boss.
Vosper has a great deal of work, and when he is found dead in the grounds,
almost every member of the party has some sort of justification for wishing
him out of the way.
Vosper is found with an arrow through his body and the only man with
sufficient strength to have fired it is the athletic John Herrick, whose
future in the tennis world has been threatened by the columnist. But the
Saint is not satisfied and, in helping the local police, is able to reveal
skeletons in the cupboard unearthed by the dead man.
Lucy Wexall herself is not sure if she is a bigamist, for instance, and she
knew that Vosper had this information. Gresson has a long history of selling
phoney stocks. Janet has offered Vosper money to keep quiet about a secret
affaire. Wexall is a drug addict who has been living on his wife's money and
has been planning to run off with his secretary, Pauline, who also has a
secret she would not like to be revealed. Astron is a fake.
But which of them is the killer?
It is the Saint's astuteness that brings out the truth and pin-points the
guilty person.
