Episode 6: The Pearls of Peace

"PEARLS OF PEACE"

The Saint subsidizes a dream - a man's dream of adventure and excitement,
but a dream that becomes a nightmare until a woman's devotion brings him
back to happiness.

When Brad Ryan (BOB KANTER) an old friend, approaches Simon Templar, the
Saint (ROGER MOORE), for a loan to help him search for pearls in San Domino,
Mexico, the Saint agrees to advance three thousand dollars.

With Brad of the venture is Harry Tiltman (ROBIN HUGHES). The other person
Brad would like to accomany him is his fiancee, Jocelyn (ERICA ROGERS), a
ruthlessly ambitious young actress. but Joss refuses to go with him, though
she invests five thousand dollars in the enterprise.

Brad's dream of a fortune fades. He soon learns that he has been "conned".
His partner, Tiltman, is a crook. In a rage, he attacks the other man, but
Tiltman gets the better of him and knocks him unconscious.

Three years later, after he has resigned himself to the loss of his money
but never to having been betrayed by an old friend he trusted, the Saint
receives a visit from Joss. She shows him a letter from Brad saying he has
found the pearls and asking her to go to San Domino to meet him.

Joss is anxious to go, and take the Saint with her. She is rich now, thanks
to a divorce settlement, but is more avaricious than ever. If Brad has found
the pearls, she reckons, his old affection might lead him back to her.

In San Domino, the Saint finds that Brad has lost his sight in the battle
with his partner and had been befriended by a girl named Consuelo (DINA
PAISER). Consuelo is as plain as her voice is beautiful. And she is in love
with Brad.

Brad really thinks that he has found the pearls. Consuelo has told him so.
But the pearls are worthless imitations, and the Saint catches up with a
story of selfless devotion on the part of Consuelo, who is slaving herself
to the bone in her efforts to save money so that he can have an operation to
restore his sight - despite her belief that, when he is able to see her with
his own eyes he will realize she is not as beautiful as he imagines and that
she may well lose him. Her own savings - but he will always believe the
money came from the sale of the pearls he has found, with her help.

Joss does her best to wreck everything, but the Saint maipulates the scales
of justice.....
