The Saint on TV

Episode 3: The Careful Terrorist

"THE CAREFUL TERRORIST"

The Saint takes over when a journalist, running a TV campaign against a
corrupt union boss, is murdered, and finds himself at the receiving end of a
murder plot.

Lester Boyd (GARY COCKRELL) is an idealist, dedicated newspaper reporter,
fighting a campaign in his television newscasts against Nat Grendel (PETER
DYNELEY), corrupt boss of a union whom he accuses of extortion, fraud,
embezzlement, larceny and blackmail - a thorn in the side of American labour
and an insult to every honest union executive in the States. Both on the air
and in his newspaper column, Boyd keeps up the attack, despite the fears for
his safety on the part of his finacee, Jenny Hallam (SALLY BAZELEY).

Boyd is murdered for his pains.

His death is a challenge to the Saint, Simon Templar (ROGER MOORE), who
decides to take over where Boyd left off. Just as he is beginning his
campaign, an attempt is made on Grendel's life. The police find the gun,
dropped by the would-be assassin. It belongs to Boyd.

Soon afterwards, the Saint receives a visit from Boyd's fiancee, Jenny. She
has a bullet wound. The Saint guesses, correctly, that she received it when
shooting at Grendel, whose side-kick had fired back at the assailant.

It comes as no surprise to the Saint when Grendel threatens him. He knows an
attempt will be made on his life. His primary concern is to find out what
form it will take, and when it will be.

What he discovers is confirmed when Grendel telephones him and tells him he
is about to die. All he has to do is press a button.

Grendel has laid his plan well. There are two bombs in the Saint's
apartment, one left purposely for him to discover, anticipating that he
wouldn't think of looking for a second one. And Grendel can set off the bomb
by pressing a button in his own home.

The Saint warns him not to press it, but the advice is ignored. After all,
how was he to know that the Saint had been doing a little engineering on his
own account......
